Residential Projects -- Welded Frames with Sewn and Laced Covers Originally, Artbilt Awnings specialized in residential awnings and that remains a focus today even as commercial business has increased greatly. From Artbilt’s beginnings 70 years ago awnings were cut and sewn. With the advent of air conditioning the size of awnings was greatly reduced, but little else changed.

In 1996 we began to adopt the staple-in (see awning FAQ's) method of manufacture which, because of its drum-tight, wrinkle-free covers caught on to the extent that 80% of our new awnings today are staple-in. We retain the expertise to cut and sew awnings using galvanized steel pipe frames but virtually the only cut and sewn awnings today are recovers of old work or new projects for older houses where the old look is desired.
